Charles S. Ovitsky, O.D.
President, Director of Optometry

Following in his father’s footsteps, Dr. Ovitsky is a graduate of the Illinois College of Optometry. Unfortunately, the young Dr. Ovitsky never had the opportunity to practice with the elder Dr. Ovitsky because of the father’s early death. The legacy his father did pass on to him, however, was the belief that the only way to practice optometry is with professionalism tempered by compassion.

Since 1983, Dr. Ovitsky has been providing vision care – professionally and compassionately – to residents of long term care facilities. As a result, Ovitsky Vision Care has become one of the largest providers of vision care to nursing home residents in the state of Illinois.

Dr. Ovitsky has been married for over 35 years to Maureen. They have three children and three grandchildren.

She is fluent in Russian; she understands some Ukranian and Polish.

She and her husband have one hockey-playing son and a non-hockey-playing dog. The whole family is avid hockey fans, even when their son doesn’t have a game. Dr. Bilis enjoys skiing and, because of her son, ice skating. She does not play hockey. Yet.

From a young age her parents instilled in her a desire to travel, and she still loves it! Many weekends are spent away from home with her family discovering the world. Maureen is committed to ensuring that the best vision care possible is being administered to patients. Employees can recite her mantra: “Always remember that our patients don’t live in a facility; we work in their home.” She makes sure that this attitude is reflected in the everyday running of Ovitsky Vision Care.

Michael Ovitsky
Vice President

Michael – the son of Chuck and Maureen Ovitsky – joined Ovitsky Vision Care in May 2013. Having been exposed to the business his entire life, he wanted to apply his MBA degree he received from Loyola University to the family’s practice. His expertise in entrepreneurship, accounting, human resources, and business development has allowed Ovitsky Vision Care to continue in growth and success.

Michael, however, has never put his business savvy before the importance and priority of quality eye care. That is his passion which has made him an indispensable and critical component to the Ovitsky Vision Care formula.

Michael is married to his lovely wife Shaina and is an avid amateur hockey player.

Rebecca Efron
Rebecca – the daughter of Chuck and Maureen Ovitsky – serves as our manager of quality assurance. As such, she is the primary patient liaison and quality assurance representative between your facility and Ovitsky Vision Care. She’s been working for us since 2002. She uses her experience and expertise to ensure that the daily operations between your business and ours run seamlessly.

What you recognize immediately when you first meet Rebecca is her strong sense of caring and compassion for our patients. It is this compassion, combined with her experience that drives her to excel in this important role at Ovitsky Vision Care. She is the person you want to call when you have any questions about a patient’s care. Rebecca will take care of it.

Rebecca and her husband, Hillel, have four children.
Leah Smolarcik
As Director of Billing for Ovitsky Vision Care, Leah is responsible for all billing and insurance submissions on behalf of the practice. She has more than seven years of experience in medical billing. Leah stays on top of all of the changes happening across the landscape of health care insurance.

If you, your resident, or your resident’s legal representative has any questions regarding fees or insurance, Leah’s the person to call. She’ll answer your questions and address your concerns with the usual professional and personal manner that everyone has come to appreciate.

Daniela Stan
Daniela came to Ovitsky Vision Care in 2005, bringing her extraordinary organizational skills with her. Her role is to oversee the scheduling of our monthly doctor visits to your home. One week before the appointment, she sends out reminders to confirm when our doctor will be visiting. She also handles the schedules of all of our assistants, as well as the emergency calls that come into our office.

Any questions that come up about scheduling, Daniela is the person to contact. She makes sure that nothing falls through the cracks when it comes to scheduling appointments with your residents.

Daniela is fluent in Romanian, in addition to English. She loves spending time with her son, Daniel.

Deanna Castro
One phrase keeps recurring when our patients and colleagues talk about Deanna: hard-working. But she really doesn’t have a choice because her responsibilities – overseeing all of our public assistance products – are no small undertaking. From monitoring the significant amount of paperwork that needs to be submitted, to making sure that the correct glasses are safely delivered when promised to the right patient, Deanna’s job requires a thorough understanding of the process, an eye for detail, and a passion for precision.

Deanna never allows her compulsion for precision to block out the underlying goal of her job: to ensure that our patients receive eyeglasses as quickly as possible so they can get on with watching their world. In this regard, she has her priorities straight.

Deanna has two children that keep her as busy at home as she is at work. And she is as adept at being a mom as she is at making sure our patients receive their spectacles.
